Going for Gold Party

How amazing are the Olympics? The whole world coming together in a show of athletics and sportsmanship that only occurs every FOUR years.

The Olympic opening ceremonies always send shivers down our spines; this year we decided that it was time to channel all that wonder into a fun party that anyone can host in their home.

Get ready – Opening ceremonies are August 5th.  While the athletes are giving their all, you can support them by throwing a gold medal worthy party! Let’s cheer on TEAM USA with food, drinks, and some games of our own.

We created  free printables for this party including the  USA banner, the Olympics banner, fun straw flare , medals, place cards , and cupcake toppers  that are all featured here. You can get the plates, straws, treat bags, cake stand, and honeycombs from the Jollity & Co. store to complete this gold medal worthy look!

Don’t forget about the food either… Your athletes will need something to refuel them!

Pretzels became the “Competitors Crunch”, the treat bags filled with popcorn and candy were the “Spectator’s Snacks”, and just for fun we filled ice cream cones with a mix of Cheeto’s and hot Cheeto’s to be our “Flamin’ Torches”.

Time for the actual athletic portion of this party… Unless you count inhaling all of those snacks, because if that’s the case, we would totally take the gold. #olympiceaters

hurdles PicMonkey Collage

Yes.  It’s as fun as it looks.
For the actual hurdles we used pool noodles and pencils (or pens). You use the pencils as stakes, shove them into the ground, and slide your pool noodle onto them. The height of your hurdle will depend on how close or how far you place your stakes, set up as many hurdles as you like. The person to go through the course the quickest without knocking over a hurdle wins. Print your hurdles sign here.

Shot Put

shot putPicMonkey Collage

We just had to include Shot Put, one of the original Olympic Games. We used a bocce ball set but really you can use tennis balls or whatever you have laying around. Whoever throws the ball the farthest wins. Print your shot put sign here.

40 Yard Dash

40 yd dashPicMonkey Collage

The 40 Yard Dash is a perfect event for the kids you might have dropping by the party. We spray painted a start line (you could lay down a rope or streamer) and had two people holding up the finish line for our competitors to run through. The kids were very intense during this race and asked to do it multiple times! Print your event sign here.

You can also play soccer, basketball, do gymnastics,  or if you have a pool, add some fun water events! extra olympics PicMonkey Collage

This party will definitely help our US Olympic athletes bring home some gold medals… Well, maybe not, but you can at least send your friends home with a few! Print a set of medals for each event your having – and you can even do an all-around athlete medal ceremony at the end.

The Secret to Getting the Most Out of Party Decor

It’s always such a bummer when a party comes to an end. After all that hard work of preparing, crafting, and decorating, everything’s just boxed up or put in the trash! Well, no more! We have the perfect ways to take awesome decorations and use them all year long!

Here are some great ways to keep that decor displayed everyday!

Up Your Nursery Style

A lot of baby showers these days seem to incorporate the nursery color scheme or theme as part of the decor, which is great! Use those adorable pom moms, tassel banners, and paper fans to add a little extra personal touch to your (or your friend’s) nursery. Easy peasy!

Children & Teen Play Room Decor

Did you throw your child an awesome themed birthday party and have some amazing items that you kinda want to brag about for a little while longer? Hang those babies up in their rooms, playroom, or reading nook!

Have a pal who is a photographer? Sometimes they’ll have cute stylized mini shoots. See if they’d like to incorporate your leftover decorations into their next setup – and maybe you can do a fun swap for some photos?

Home Decor

All those fun trinkets, knickknacks, and back drops can easily help decorate living spaces throughout your house. Check out our honeycomb backdrop after an event- it was a perfect display over a DIY Succulent table. And when you get sick of it and want to change things up, no need to feel guilty! It’s already pulled double duty! For smaller items like garlands and banners save them for your mantel. It’s a simple way to spruce it up each month with  fun, seasonal changes.

Wasn’t that a piece of cake?!

DIY Honeycomb Backdrop!

We love creative brainstorming and coming up with our own ideas on fun and simple DIY projects.  We recently came up with this awesome idea to make a geometric diamond honeycomb backdrop. Making use of diamond honeycombs, this colorful backdrop creates a huge impact and the fun geometric shape provides a unique look to any table scape or even a party photo booth!

  • 1 Foam Core Board, 40 x 60″
  • 24 Diamond Honeycombs – 3 color varieties, 8 of each color (you’ll have one diamond honeycomb left over once the DIY is finished)
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Extra Glue Sticks
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Exacto Knife
  • Twine
  • Single Hole Punch or a tool that can make a small hole

Lay the foam board vertically on a flat surface making sure you have plenty of room to maneuver around the board.

Take five diamond honeycombs of two alternating colors (you’ll use your third color for filling in at the end in step 7) and arrange them sticky-tab side down in a vertical line down the left side of the board. Make sure the shortest point is facing the edge of the board.

Starting with the top honeycomb peel of the sticky-tabs and attach the diamond honeycomb to the board pressing firmly to ensure it sticks. Repeat this process until the row is done.

Next, take your hot glue gun and add a line of glue to the edge of the honeycomb that did not have sticky-tabs on it. Quickly pull the honeycomb open and stick it to the foam board. Repeat this process through the row.

Follow Steps 2-4 for the second and third rows, making sure that all points sides touch one another as to not show too much white space.

Using the remaining six honeycombs, fill in the gaps (excluding the boards edges) by repeating Steps 2-4.

Using an exacto knife carefully cut around the edges of the board, cutting as close to the diamonds edge as possible. Do not cut the two middle white spaces on the top of the board.

*We recommend putting a piece of cardboard or a cutting board under the foam board while you cut so you don’t scratch your floor or table.

In the remaining two white spaces take your ruler and measure 3 1/2 inches down from the top. Mark this spot and using your hole punch or other tool make a hole, (we used the exacto knife).

String your twine through the two holes and hang accordingly.

Honeycomb Collage

How fun was that? This backdrop allows you to play with the colors, pattern, and scheme by mixing and matching the diamond honeycombs. It’s adapatable to almost any party, as shown below in the photo of the Flamingo Fun Party! For this party we mixed pink diamond honeycombs in three shades to add a pop of pink to our dessert table!  If you make this project we’d love to see your photos, tag us @jollityco and use hashtag #partywithjollity

Monday Means Mojito’s

Hey friends!

Last week we got these new amazing lollipop flavors in stock and as we tested them we said “wouldn’t this be fantastic IN a cocktail?!?!” So we got to work and came up with this delicious cocktail!

It has some of our favorite things in it. Coconut, yum. Vanilla, yummy. Mint, yummier. And, of course, booze. Yummiest! You can dip the lollipop, or just let it melt into your drink… the possibilities are endless.

And whatdya know?! It’s NATIONAL MOJITO DAY! So, we of course decided we needed to share.

  • 10 Mint Leaves
  • 1 Coconut & Vanilla Lollipop
  • Buy Specialty Lolli’s
  • 1/2 Lime-sliced
  • Soda Water
  • 1 1/2 Ounces of Rum
  • Club Soda
  • Simple Syrup
  • Ice-Crushed is better, but not necessary

In an oversized wine glass, muddle half your mint leaves and two of your lime slices in the bottom of your cup.

Add your lollipop. Pour rum into the glass making sure to make as much contact as possible with the lollipop. Stir vigorously.

Add ice, stir again, and top with club soda. Gently stir for 5 seconds, add remaining mint leaves and taste. Finish with simple syrup until it’s as sweet as you like it!

The longer these lush lollipop’s are in your drink the more coconutty (totally a word) the flavor. If you have time, prep a whole bunch through the “add rum” step and let them soak until ready to serve. Enjoy!

Drink up and be sure to post some pics of your delicious Mojito’s, we’d love to see them! Tag us @jollityco and use hashtag #partywithjollity
